The challenge
What this challenge is about
Analyse a fictional runway look and determine how it could become a responsible, traceable, DPP-ready and industrially feasible commercial product.
Context and scenario
Participants act as a Sustainable Product Development Manager for a fictional premium fashion brand. The brand has created a runway prototype intended to express the creative direction of a future collection, but it has not yet been assessed for responsible commercial production.
The challenge
Materials and components are not fully documented, supplier traceability is incomplete, construction may be too complex for production at scale, environmental impacts have not been assessed, target cost may be difficult to achieve, durability and repairability have not been demonstrated, product data is fragmented, and the product is not ready for a Digital Product Passport.

Runway-to-production report, DPP-readiness pack and management summary
Runway-to-production report — an 8–12 slide or page report covering product analysis, essential creative features, verified information and assumptions, production risks, sustainability diagnosis, materials, sourcing, industrialisation, quality, cost, lead time, durability, repairability, Industry Shock Card response, trade-offs and final recommendation
DPP-readiness pack — a concise Digital Product Passport prototype and readiness matrix covering identifier, simulated QR/data carrier, category, composition, materials, origins, manufacturing stages, care, durability, repair, reuse, recycling, environmental information, evidence, missing data, responsible data owner, readiness status and actions required
Management summary — a maximum 300-word summary of the three most important product-development decisions, the principal environmental or industrial risk, the product’s DPP-readiness conclusion and the first actions the fictional brand should take

Who should participate?
Designed primarily for ESIV Paris students and suitable for fashion product-development, production-management, sourcing, quality-management, sustainable-fashion, materials, industrialisation and product-data students, as well as future product developers, production coordinators, sourcing professionals and sustainability professionals. No fashion-design or coding experience is required.
